Church of Uganda anounce zero balance on Equity loan

The Church of Uganda yesterday, during the Martyr’s Day celebrations, took a remarkable step to clear the outstanding loan balance owed by the financial institution Equity Bank. The loan was taken to construct a commercial plaza to add to the cash flow of the religious institution instead of depending on the believers.

However, the loan of over 60 billion Uganda shillings had become difficult to pay back. The institution resorted to collectively calling upon believers and well-wishers to help in the clearance.

Luckily, the money was collected and a damy chaque of the remaining outstanding balance of 9 billion shillings was handed over to the Equity bank boss during the celebrations.

The event was attended by thousands of believers who trekked miles to come to Namugongo and many dignitaries including the head of state HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Prime Minister Robina Nabanjja, the speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among and his deputy Thomas Tayebwa.

The church of Uganda managed to organize the celebrations successfully under very tight security, unlike the previous events where crime was high.

” Some of the speakers have talked about corruption. I agree, that corruption is becoming a problem in Uganda, and when I address the state of the nation, I will talk about it in detail” President Museveni said as delivered his speech.

He further thanked the believers for what he termed as copying the NRM ideology of unity .
