Joel Ssenyonyi Wants The Parliamentary Commission Investigated

Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi has asked Uganda Police to extensively carry out thorough investigations into the Parliamentary Commission stating that is where a lot of mess starts from.

He cited that the Parliamentary Commission lacks transparency and holds secretive meetings without informing and inviting the rest of the members of the Commission by law.

“As police arrest some MPs and continue investigating corruption in Parliament, I hope they will cast their net even wider. The Parliamentary Commission must also be investigated because that’s the genesis of many issues. Today I wrote to the Speaker regarding the fact that the Commission meets clandestinely with just a few members, without informing and inviting the rest of us who are full members of the Commission by law”, Joel Ssenyonyi
Joel Ssenyonyi also raised a crucial issue questioning why he has not yet been invited to the Commission ever since he was appointed the Leader of Opposition (LoP) yet he is a very important member of that committee.
He made the plea following the ongoing corruption investigations that are being carried out against three Members of Parliament Yusuf Mutembuli (Bunyole East), Paul Akamba (Busiki county), and Cissy Namujju (Lwengo Woman MP) who have been slapped with charges of corruption.
Court records indicate that the trio solicited a percentage share of the Uganda Human Rights Commission’s 2024/25 budget, promising to influence its increase.
While appearing before the anti-corruption court the trio pleaded not guilty and were remanded to Kitalya Prison until their other case hearing is scheduled.
