Rachael Magoola shares the secret to the success of her hit song ‘Obangaina’

Bugweri Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Rachael Magoola, has opened up about her hit song “Obangaina” which was recorded in 1997 and became a fan favorite until to date and in the forthcoming years it will still be a big song.

She credits the song’s success to Mr. Abbey Mukiibi Nkaaga who helped promote it by infusing it through their Bakayimbira Drama Actors stage plays.

The song was recorded and mastered in the UK where Afrigo band had traveled for a tour and when they returned home, they found the sound big.

She notes that it took her 1o years to land a music project that would get revelers out of their seats to the dancefloor and groove.

She recollected that when she had joined Afrigo band, her solo performance were always treated as a break by revelers and that is when she would always here people go to ease themselves and others grab drinks and such situations made her work effortlessly so that she would become a powerhouse in the band.

Hon. Magoola also recorded other hit songs including “Emaali” and has stuck to her craft that to date she walks with her head high whenever her songs are played because they don’t contain any vulgarity.

Before she joined Afrigo band, Hon. Magoola noted that she first tried out her luck with the Ebonies but quit because she felt she wasn’t getting what she wanted out of the Ebonies and one of her relatives directed her to camp at the National Theatre to be able to meet some of the Afrigo members and explain to them her desire to do music.

She reveals that by that time, Afrigo was at its peak but due to her confidence and the fact that she loved music and had finished her schooling journey, she told Mr. Wasula an interesting story about her back ground who directed her to Mr. Moses Matovu and later asked her to join them in practice until she caught up with the band’s pace after some good years.

Sharing about her family back, Hon. Magoola, disclosed that her late dad was a school music teacher and former that matter, she and her sister became performers at a very tender age of about eight years because they would always move with their dad whenever he went to teach music and thus their talent grew and expanded.

                       Education Background

Hon. Magoola says she started school from Nambulu primary school then joined Tororo Girls for her O-level, Namasagali, Kaliro college where she enrolled for her teaching course. After successfully finishing her teaching course, she joined Kyambogo University and later in 1989 joined Afrigo band.

Bugweri Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Rachael Magoola

                    Political Career

Magoola, revealed that she actively joined politics in 2016 where she contested for Bugweri District MP. During that campaign, she lost terribly to the person who was occupying the seat and the lose forced her to return to the drawing board and evaluated herself on what she had messed up.

In 2021, she contested for the same post and successful won. She highlights that there is a stinking poverty in Bugweri district adding that there is a lot of effort needed to uplift the standards and lifestyle of people living in that district.

She notes that she has a huge task of teaching people about government programs. She, however, decried of a government official whom she clearly knows who was given the Parish Development Model (PDM) money to give it out to the residents to develop themselves but instead, used the money to buy mattress.

One of the incidences that is fresh on her mind that she recalls often is ever witnessing a woman who lost a lot of blood when she was giving birth and passed on.

Having witnessed the terrible scanrio, she decided to care of the child by raising her up and at the moment the child is in Top class. She adds that such incidents are very many in her district and urged the ministry of health to improve health care where she comes from.

She explains individual support is not enough to take care of such rising case as the government needs to step up and do the needful.
