The former head of the state house anti-corruption unit boss, Col. Edith Nakalema, has called out the general public to join in the ongoing fight against corruption.

While in an interview on local television, she emphasized the power of collective effort and working hand in hand to engage all corrupt tendencies and report the corrupt people.

” I am here to appeal to all Ugandans that the fight against corruption needs everyone’s involvement. The corrupt are everywhere and that is why there are so many efforts to fight corruption,” she added.

The government has also created several units to engage the fight against the vice which has cost the country over 10 trillion shillings annually.

According to Col. Edith Nakalema, the creation of several units by the government is an added advantage as it increases manpower in the fight.

“There is no extravagance by the units that are established by the president. The people who are recruited and are in those units are very few and doing work with already established agencies. There is no problem having many offices to fight for the sake of eliminating corrupt people because they are everywhere and in different sectors,” she claimed

However, there has been a rising number of claims from investors who cited that certain people in various sectors ask for bribes before giving them any help or service.

Most especially the local investors who have complained on several occasions about not being awarded the same privileges as their foreign counterparts.

On that matter, Col. Edith Nakalema, replied that the government pays a lot of attention to the local investor but it also depends on the level of investment.

It is on record that the government of Uganda has supported both local and foreign companies, especially during hard times like bailouts.
