The former NRM cadre turned independent member of parliament representing Kampala central division Hon. Muhamad Nsereko has this evening advised the youth to fully participate in politics. The member of parliament called on youth especially those who are not satisfied by their area member of parliament to pick nomination forms and contest.
This was after several youths were arrested by security forces protesting the alleged corruption in the Ugandan Parliament during a campaign dubbed “Match To Parliament”
The youths held placards written on with slogans calling an end to corruption and resignation of the speaker of parliament .
” We need Anita Annet Among to resign, nothing else! ” the protesters shouted while trying to make their way to the entrance of the Parliament.
According to the Kampala Central member of parliament, Hon Muhamed Nsereko, the real issue about the protests is unemployment to which he called on the house to address.
” We must address the real issue, the real issue that young people are grappling with is unemployment. For me I speak what my people in my constituency are talking about. We have around twenty five million people between the age of seventeen and sixty four. Whenever you go back home, honorable colleagues , you will agree that nearly thirty percent of your people are presenting you with CVs and asking you to help them find jobs” Hon. Muhamed Nsereko stated.
” Parents are grappling with the issue of looking at their children, after graduating and being skilled and looking at them of having no access to opportunity. We can talk about change of leaders, change of policy but if we do not address the issue of access to opportunity, then we shall not have addressed the real issue,” he added
” If your consistuents are unhappy , I strongly support them to come to you at home and ask you why they are unemployed, why they are paying more taxes. If some youths are unhappy , my best advise to the young colleagues is to come and pick nomination forms and contest.” Hon Muhamed Nsereko concluded.
