Police halts NUP mobilisation activities in Soroti , Bugweri and Palisa

The Uganda police force has halted the upcoming National Unity Platform (NUP) mobilization activities after it cited non-compliance of the earlier on agreed guidelines.

According to the police,  on 11th July, while at the police headquarters, they agreed with the party leadership represented by the Leader Of Opposition Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi on established guidelines for regulating public meetings across the country.

However, the Uganda police force observed several violations during the recently concluded tour of the Western Region by National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters.

violations include

On 15th July 2024 at 10:54hrs , between Fort Portal and Bundibugyo, a white Toyota Hiace vehicle reg.UBL 5167  was observed carrying passengers on its rooftop violating its traffic laws.

On 16th July 2024, at 14;28 hours along Bushenyi Ishaka road , NUP supporters conducted a procession, during which the party leader was seen stopping in the middle of the road to greet individuals. Additionally, vehicle reg number UBB741w was seen with passengers seated in the windows ,contravening traffic regulations.

On the same day ,14;26 hours and 14;27 hours in Bushenyi , supporters of the party in red overalls were observed directing and controlling traffic which is a mandate for the Uganda Police Force.

Near Kampala International University Teaching Hospital , a black harrier was noted transporting individuals seated onits windows , which is against traffic regulations . Other vehicles were also found with concealed number plates, also a violation of the traffic laws.

At 15;47hrs on 16th July 2024 in Kizinda -Ishaka , the driver of the vehicle reg 268, was seen driving while dancing and opening his driver’s door, which amounts to interfering with safe driving.

On 18th July 2024 at 14:36hrs in Ntugamo municipality, Toyota hiace supporters were seen sitting on the windows also violating traffic laws.

At 15:13hrs on the same day at Ntugamo Fuelx petrol station, the supporters were gathered beside the highway causing significant disruption to traffic flow and its users.

However, another engagement meeting with the NUP leadership has been scheduled.
