Stand-up comedian Obed Lubega a.k.a Reign Omusoyisoyi of the comedy outfit “Maulana and Reign” was on Thursday 25th July, 2024 arraigned before Mwanga II Magistarte’s court in Mengo.
The court that is presided over by Principal Magistarate Adam Byarugaba read him charges of attempting to spread/commit hate speech.
He denied the charges and was granted bail of Shs 1 Million whereas his sureities a non cash bond of Shs 10 million.
Reign was granted the bail after the judge found that all the four sureities he had presented in court were substantial and ruled that the suspect should remain peaceful will on bail and not interfere with the state’s witnesses as investigations are still ongoing.
He applied for bail through his lawyers reasoning that he has a fixed place of abode, the offense charged against him being available, and had substantial sureities including his father and partner in comedy Maulana Kasozi.

Reign was arrested on Tuesday 23rd from his home in Mutundwe, Rubaga South Division in Kampala District.
He was believed to be inciting and mobilizing youth to join the #MarchToParliament non-violent protests through his social media accounts to be hostile to police officers who were lawfully exciting their mandate of keeping law and order.
Mr. Byarugaba adjourned the case to August 27th for mention of the case.
Reign was arrested with several other youth who stormed the streets of Kampala who are believed to be more than 60 and were remanded to Luzira prison on charges of being “public nunasiance, idle and disorderly”.
They will appear in Court on Tuesday 30th of July for mention of other cases.
