Kampala traders led by their associations, Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) and FUTA  have threatened to stage another strike after a flopped long-awaited meeting with the president.

The meeting which was previously scheduled to take place on 31st July at Kololo grounds was postponed to an undisclosed date according to the minister in charge of Kampala Hajjat Aisha Kabanda.

Something which did not go well with the traders especially the means of communication which were used.

According to the leaders of KACITA led by its spokesperson Issa Ssekito, the president should have used a formal means of communication instead of using Wattasp to address the issue.

” On the news we received via Wattasp message that the long-awaited meeting between the business community with the president has been canceled for the 31st of July 2024, it is not the cancelation that was defective but rather the way it was done. It is very unprofessional, and very disrespectful that a minister can just use a WhatsApp voice to stop a long-awaited meeting with the entire business community in Uganda.” Issa Ssekitto said

“We thought the president would use a formal letter, a formal Twitter handle, or a formal communic form that works on his communication at the state house. To tell the traders who are always at our backs as leaders to tell them what is going on. An honorable minister just dashed out a message to say that they can not see the president because Kololo is being renovated. Then she tells us that the president will see us at an undisclosed date in August.” he further noted.

It should be recalled that the ongoing standoff between the traders and the central government has been gaining momentum for quite a long time since the introduction of the Electronic Fiscal Recepting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS).
