NUP’s head of security Achilleo Kivumbi charged with unlawful possession of military gear

Achileo Kivumbi, the head of security at National Unity Platform (NUP) and bodyguard to the party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, was sent to Luzira Prison for a month.

He was arraigned before the General Court-martial at Makindye and charged with possession of military gear of a lieutenant colonel, which the Defence Forces gazetted.

The 42-year-old will return to court on the 2nd of September for his second court hearing since he was violently arrested last week as he was heading back to his home in areas of Nansana, Wakiso district where he resides.

He was arrested by men in plain cloth on August 1st and was only presented to court today.

During the court session, he tried to apply for bail but Brig. Gen. Freeman Mugabe who presided over the court declined to offer him the bail.

Kivumbi now joins 28 other NUP supporters who were arrested and detained by the military court ever since the 2021 general elections on charges related to unlawful possession of army gear.

Based on the eyewitnesses who saw the event as Kivumbo was being arrested, explained that heavily armed men, in a Noah Reg. No. UAP 164P  ganged up against him, severely beat him, and later bundled him in a waiting van.

They briskly sped off to an unknown destination.  NUP President, Bobi Wine has since described the charges Trumped cases.
