Hon. Muhamad Ssegirinya has claimed to contest in the upcoming 2026 elections despite his health condition. The frail member of parliament has been in a sick bed for over eight months at Agha Khan International Hospital battling an unknown illness.
However, he promised his supporters that he would be back to serve them since his health is gradually improving.
The vocal Kawempe member of parliament Muhamad Ssegirinya was last relieved of his duties to go on medical leave by parliament which brought a standstill to most of his social projects including the closing of the community hospital he had established for his constituents.
“This term I was disturbed a lot. I was imprisoned, beaten, and again ill for a long time. I can’t allow the bad conditions I have been through to continue and I fail to fight against them. Am not coming back as me, it is my supporters who asked me to come back for another term since they still need to benefit from the projects I had started. I am going to re-ignite them and ensure they benefit my people,” he said.
” But am also coming back for only one term and leave the political arena. I am also training another person to come in my footsteps like I did while still the counselor, ” he added
Hon. Muhamad Ssegirinya is the Kawempe East member of parliament representing the opposition political party NUP . He was arrested with Allan Ssewanyana on allegations of involvement in the Masaka murders however later released due to lack of sufficient evidence.
