The National Unity Platform (NUP) staunch supporter Sammy of the comedy duo the Mighty family has come out to reveal the reason behind his remand back to Luzira prison after he had luckily secured bail. According to Sammy, he had no passport with him because he lost it while still abroad.
Which is the main reason why he decided to relocate back home. Sammy was arrested during the march to parliament protests which sparked around Kampala with many youths participating to end the increasing corruption cases, especially in the parliament.
“I know they want to weaken me but my spirit is still strong. Dear comrades, I understand that you are wondering why am still in jail. The fact is that I lost my passport while still abroad and that is the real reason why I came back here,” Sammy Okanya stated in a video
Earlier on, the Buganda road court chief magistrate had granted a cash bail of shs 500000 and set a few conditions like leaving behind his Ugandan National Identification card and a passport.
His three sureties including the mother, uncle, and brother were requested to stand for a non-cash bond of two million each, which they agreed on.
Sammy Okanya has been an activist for a while based abroad after a failed career in the Ugandan comedy industry. He has also participated in a few protests before he went abroad for greener pastures.
Most of his videos including his activism work, call upon the government to improve on service delivery, peace and freedom for everyone.
