Dancehall artist and former Goodlyfe member, Douglas Mayanja a.k.a Weasel, lost his cool and thumped events promoter Norbat propetirior of Norbat events this evening. The pair have been on good terms since the preparation of Weasel’s maiden concert after the death of his workmate artist Moses Ssekibogo a.k.a Radio.
It is unclear what caused the serious fight between the two friends now turned enemies. However, an audio circulating suspect from Weasel claims that promoter Nobat was undermining him and had not yet cleared the balance from their organized concert “Memories Of Goodlyfe”
“This guy Norbat has told me things I don’t need to hear. That I don’t deserve to earn any single coin and he was doing a favor to me because no one else would have the guts to organize a concert for me,” Weasel stated.
This is not the first time that the former Goodlyfe singer has been involved in violence. A few months ago, Weasel was reportedly arrested for assaulting his wife Sandra Teta, however, the matter was resolved out of court and they are currently back together.
The Ugandan music industry has been embroiled in violence with many musicians seeking the services of bodyguards or collecting idle youths to give them security known as “Egali” whenever they are out for performances.
The violence has become the norm of the day as many artists think that it is the only way to get media attention. According to legendary singer Measerch Ssemakula, the artists need to think maturely and stop violence because it is dangerous and can result in serious repercussions.
