Politics has shuttered our business-promoter Balunywa cries out

A group of events promoters, led by Balunywa of Balunywa Events Promotions, has come out to express their frustration to the government on what they have termed as a serial move to sabotage and weaken the entertainment business.

During a presser, the promoters cited several obstacles allegedly established by the Government to ensure that there will no longer be any outdoor events organized within or around the central business area.

” We went to Gulu to meet Gen. Saleh, however, they claimed not to know any of us and our association yet they had been funding some of our activities. We were also told to resort to virtual entertainment shows instead of collecting thousands of people in an outdoor place.

The Uganda Revenue Authority has also introduced various taxes on almost everything and the business is no longer unprofitable.

They want to tax every expenditure we incur, something similar to what they did to traders when they introduced EFRIS,”  promoter Balunywa stated.

According to the promoters, the government has turned against them since they are the major funders and the organizers of events around the country not has previously thought that musicians did all the work for themselves.

“At first, the Government thought that musicians organized shows by themselves, only to realize later that there were also event promoters who funded and did the work for them. The coming of Bobi Wine to join politics scared them. They also fear that another artist from the entertainment industry can emerge to join politics,” events promoter Balunywa stated.
