The leader of the Opposition in the parliament of Uganda and National Unity Platform spokesperson Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi has vowed not to give up on his duties because of intimidation from a proposed bill seeking to change the status quo of electing the Leader Of the Opposition.
According to Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, he is only carrying out his duties of keeping the current government in check by asking for accountability and ensuring that the resources are provided to its citizens.
Therefore , there is no need for him to bend low as the government and parliament are wasting money which should be meant for helping to provide for its citizens.
The Leader of Opposition clarified on Hon.Lumu’s bill as a move planned by some individuals with selfish intentions.
“Broadly speaking, Hon.Lumu’s idea that the opposition leader in parliament should be elected within parliament when you look at its genesis, can’t come out of the blue. Its has where it’s coming from.” Hon Joel Ssenyonyi stated.
To add to that , Ssenyonyi, also echoed out some ideas from other people who also demanded that the leader of government business in parliament and the government chief whip be elected.
“I have not said it is wrong to elect the leader of the opposition, but also people are asking; if it is okay to vote for the leader of the opposition and the opposition chief whip , maybe it should also be okay to vote for the leader of government business and government chief whip.” he said.
