Police starts probe into assailant who attacked family and hacked four children in Ndejje

Uganda Police have kicked off with investigations of an assailant who attacked a family in the morning hours on Monday and hacked children with a panga after he requested Shs5m cash that the mother of the children failed to avail to him.

The known assailant stormed into the home of 25-year-old Ayebare Anita, a resident of Bongole Zone, in Ndejje.

When Ms. Ayebare failed to deliver on his request, he turned to hurt her children including; Atuhaire Lucia (2 yrs), Ampaire Maria Zoe (5 yrs), Musiime Blair (7 yrs), and Ankunda Godius (14 yrs).

When he turned to hurting the children a scuffle ensued between the mother and the assailant as they made loud alarms attracting the locals and Police who swung into action to help the family members.

The attacker was later subdued and the children were rushed to Nalujja Medical Center, Batata Entebbe Road, for urgent medical attention.

The condition in which the hacked children are in is not stable as at the moment they were transferred to Mulago hospital to receive improved medication.

Based on the statement that Ms. Ayebare made in a phone call, she noted that the attacker entered her home while face-masked in an all-black outfit and the mask was only removed from his face when had been subdued. She claimed that she had never seen or crossed paths with the assailant.

On doing a thorough check about the assailant, he was found with a very old button mobile phone which was not working the Police have since commenced investigations by cross-examining the phone and called upon any individuals who have a missing family member to check with Mulago mortuary

Statement on Attempted Murder of Children in Wakiso District
Date: April 29, 2024
The territorial Police at Katwe are currently investigating a harrowing incident of attempted murder that occurred today, April 29th, 2024, at approximately 10:30 am. It is reported that an unidentified assailant, armed with a panga, forcibly entered the residence of Ms. Ayebare Anita, 25 years old, a resident of Bongole Zone, while she was having breakfast with her kicked off with investigations children.
The assailant, threatening violence, demanded a sum of five million in cash from Ms. Ayebare Anita. When she resisted, the perpetrator turned his aggression towards her four children: Atuhaire Lucia (2 yrs), Ampaire Maria Zoe (5 yrs), Musiime Blair (7 yrs), and Ankunda Godius (14 yrs).
Thanks to the swift response of both residents and the police stationed at Mirimu, the assailant was subdued. It was later realized that he had inflicted injuries on the children. The children were immediately rushed to Nalujja Medical Center, Batata Entebbe Road, for urgent medical attention. However, their condition remains critical.
The body of the suspect was conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for postmortem, as investigations continue with the aim of ascertaining his identity and motive. More details will be made available as soon as possible.
