Police Suspends NUP Consultative Activities With Immediate Effect

Uganda Police Force (UPF) has with immediate effect suspended the National Unity Platform (NUP) consultative activities following a deadly accident that happened today as the party leaders headed to Masaka.

The accident is reported to have happened near St. Lawerence College, Maya, along Masaka Road, and involved loss of lives and vandalization of property.

Uganda Police report that the accident involved two motor vehicles, a Toyota Hiace, registration number UBQ 691Q, and a Toyota Noah, registration number UAT 157A. Four boda-boda cyclists with number plates UFY 983T, UGC 381C (BAJAJ BOXER), UEJ 361D (BAJAJ), and UFY 465Y (BAJAJ BOXER RED) were the individuals who were involved in the accident.

Three people are said to have passed on the spot as the rider and passenger of motorcycle UFY 465Y breathed their last at the scene and their bodies were transported to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examinations.

Based on the latest news, the Police have accused the leaders of the NUP of breaching the agreements they agreed on conducting their countrywide consultative meetings stating that they are acting with impunity.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by the reckless driving of the Toyota Hiace, which was part of the Procession for the National Unity Platform (NUP) President en route to a rally in #Masaka. The Hiace collided with the Toyota Noah and subsequently hit several motorcycles which were also Part of the procession, resulting in the fatalities.

The drivers of the impounded vehicles fled the scene and are currently at large. Efforts to apprehend them are ongoing, and both vehicles have been secured at Nsangi Police Station.
