Edward Awebwa, a 24-year-old TikToker, has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to spreading hate speech and malicious information against President Museveni, the First Lady, and the First Son.
The youthful TikToker was sent to prison after he shared a clip online where he appeared to vulgarly insult and demean the first family as he raised issues concerning tax increment in a bitter manner.
Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading. The Entebbe Chief Magistrate Court judge passed the ruling after he thoroughly examined the video that was shared by the government prosecutor during the case hearing.
The that Awebwa did is deemed as disturbing the President’s peace and the first family at large since the video was very nasty and disrespectful.

Awebwa is not the first TikToker to face such charges, as we saw at the start of the year when TikToker Pressure 24/7 was remanded for offensive communication after he was arrested for spreading hate speech toward the President and the Kabaka of Buganda among other respected people.
Tik Toker’s MC Chumi, and Teddy Nalubowa faced similar incidents in the past and each served their sentence with the latter being detained for celebrating the passing of the late Gen. Elly Tumwine in 2022.
Lately, several TikToker’s are battling with charges of offensive communication and Computer Misuse following their continued use of abusive language and insulting government officials.
