This was a result of the last mobilization drive to Masaka which resulted in an accident with two fatalities and several casualties.

According to the police report, on 31st May 2024,  there was an overloading of vehicles and inconsiderate use of cars on the road, including carrying passengers on the rooftops.

The drivers were also overspeeding and driving recklessly, which posed a danger to the passengers and other road users.

According to the leader of the opposition and member of the National Unity Platform, Hon Joel Ssenyonyi, their mobilization drive has always been very peaceful and they have done their best to control the crowds.

However, he blames police enforcement for engaging them in a rude manner that sometimes results in fights and running battles including arrests of their supporters.

” We are always very peaceful, it is the police which comes with force and denies us our rights to hold peaceful campaigns. Most of our supporters have been arrested and imprisoned without being taken to court for a fair judgment. However, it is sad that other political parties hold rallies without any interference,” he stated.
