Government to award cash to winners in 2024 Paris Olympics

The government of Uganda has set a cash prize for winners in different categories participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics. This comes as an effort to boost the athletes’ morale to compete wholeheartedly for their nation.

According to the state Minister for sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, after visiting the Uganda camp, each participant who manages to win a gold medal will walk away with a cash prize of 30 thousand US dollars approximately to 100million Ugandan shillings, 50 million Ugandan shillings for a silver medal, and 30 million Ugandan shillings for a bronze medal.

” For prizes, those who will win medals, the ministry under the national council for sports, under the directive of the first lady has provided 30 thousand US dollars for a gold medal, that is about 100million shillings, we also have 50 million for a silver medal, that is about 17 thousand US dollars and 30 million Ugandan shillings for a bronze medal. In this competition this money is ready” Hon. Peter Ogwang said.

To add to that, the state minister for sports Hon.Peter Ogwang also informed the athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics, that the ministry will provide a daily allowance of 300 US dollars to every participant per day and a training allowance for the last 23 days, which will be 30 dollars per day.

The government of Uganda has been a major stakeholder in the sports sector for a long time including financing the sports budget and building infrastructure like the renovation of Mandera National Stadium commonly known as Namboole.

The government through the Ministry of Sports has also provided scholarships to the best athletes in the country like Moses Kiprotich, Docus Nzikuru, and many others.

However, it is still searching and naturing new talent to fill the gaps left behind by the senior athletes.
