Uganda Cranes suffered a heavy 1-2 defeat at the mercy of Algeria Desert Foxes in their fourth Group G game of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers played at Namboole National Stadium on Monday evening.
Industrious midfielder Travis Mutyaba gave the Cranes the lead in the 10th minute when he pounced on a poor clearance by the Desert Foxes defender and sped past him before he struck a low thunderous shot into the bottom corner sparking wild celebrations from the fans.
Uganda Cranes had the chance to double the lead before halftime (39th minute) when Steven Mukwala’s curler after good attacking work from right back Kenneth Ssemakula went just a few inches wide.
For Algeria, the win signifies a return to form after their previous home defeat against Guinea, boosting their campaign for World Cup qualification.
