Minister Henry Oryem Okello- NUP protesters are not peaceful

The state minister for foreign affairs Hon. Henry Okello Oryem has revealed that the supporters of the opposition political party National Unity Platform (NUP) are not peaceful demonstrators. This was during a morning interview with a local television station on issues concerning the country’s foreign policy.

According to Hon. Okello Oryem, the protesters are hooligans both within Uganda and abroad . They are not among those to be regarded as peaceful protesters.

However, it should be remembered that the National Unity Platform protesters based in Canada had an outburst with the Ugandan ambassador Joy Ruth Acheng, who was later declared persona non grata after the incident.

The ambassador was blamed for her bad conduct and bitter exchange with the protesters. Something that is against the rules of the host country Canada.

According to the state minister for foreign affairs, Okello Oryem, the high commissioner Joy Ruth Acheng who was expelled from Canada, should not be judged solely based on social media footage confronting National Unity Platform members on the streets of Canada but rather they should evaluate her entire tenure in office.

The National Unity Platform leadership represented by the shadow minister Muwada Nkunyinji, welcomed the move by Canada to expel the Ugandan ambassador because she was involved in misconduct . Something contrary to the standards of a high commissioner or a person on the level of an ambassador destined to represent a country.

“For over the years, most of our diplomats have been political failures and lack any training and skill to adhere to diplomatic values. Something which has continued to embarrass us and tarnish our image internationally,” Hon. Muwada Nkunyinjji.
