The leadership of the opposition political party National Unity Platform has decided to halt its mobilization tour after a tragic accident claimed some of its supporters while on the caravan to Masaka.
The party wants to mourn with the families who lost their loved ones during the procession to Masaka. Despite the ongoing misunderstanding between some leaders in Masaka and those from Kavule, led by Honorable Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the party managed to mobilize huge numbers in the region.
For a very long time, Masaka has been a stronghold of the National Unity Platform and it was not surprising to see thousands turn up in excitement to meet and greet their leaders with joy.
The event also dispelled the ongoing rumors and a smear campaign by some disgruntled leaders who vowed to chase the political party from the Masaka sub-region. The same leaders also discouraged the people of greater Masaka not to participate in the National Unity Platform’s ongoing party registration drive.
“We are bringing you something new. Don’t register with people we don’t understand,” NUP member of parliament Abed Bwanika promised the people of Greater Masaka.
However, the Uganda Police Force still blames National Unity Platform leadership for the tragic accident that claimed some of its supporters.
