Speaker Anita Among reverses decision suspending plenary sittings

Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among has reversed her decision to suspend this week’s plenary sittings as she had directed.

In a letter that had been shared earlier, speaker Among had written to Clerk of Parliament Adolf Mwesige directing him to cancel the plenary sittings of this week without giving reasons.

She had directed that the sitting would resume next week, Tuesday, July 30th, 2024.

She has, however, reversed the decision after scheduling a special session for tomorrow July 25th, 2024, to honor former Moroto Municipality MP Simon Peter Aleper who breathed his last in a motorcar accident on July 23rd, 2024.

Speaker Anita Annet Among is believed to have canceled this week’s plenary sittings following the #March2Parliament protests demanding her resignation over corruption allegations.

The protests resulted in over 60 arrests and remand to Luzira Prison for being “public nuisance, idling, and disorderly conduct”.

The arrested protestors will be prosecuted in law courts on July 30th for further hearings of their cases and bail applications as directed by magistrates.

Among the notable individuals who are facing charges of the #March2Parliament protests include KFM media personality Faiza Fabz, and comedian Obed a.k.a Reign Omusoyisoyi who was arrested from his home on charges of inciting violence and mobilizing the youth via his mobile phone.

Since around April, Anita Annet Among has been having it rough following corruption accusation sagas.

She was slapped with UK and USA sanctions and she is not allowed to visit those nations even when it is an official visit
