Former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Owek. Mathias Mpuuga has been asked to step down as a Parliamentary Commissioner citing abuse of office and corruption.
In a letter posted on the social media platform of party president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, Mr Mpuuga is alleged to have pocketed over 500million shillings as a service award without following the right parliamentary policy.
According to the National Unity Platform (NUP), it is unacceptable for any leader to engage in such dubious activities that tarnish the party’s image and waste taxpayers’ money.
Such activities are believed to undermine the core values of the party and create a bad example for other leaders.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) is the leading opposition political party in Uganda with over 57 members in parliament.
However, the party has faced various challenges, especially with some of its major leaders in its stronghold of the Buganda region who are allegedly being scrutinized for poor service delivery. Others are also allegedly accused of dishonesty and letting down their supporters who believed they would bring change into their lives.
According to the party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, they still have along way to go especially when Mr. Museveni is still the president of Uganda since he controls almost everything.
