Formerly a dilapidated place, smelly and full of mud. The whole place was barely livable and littered with rubbish. It had turned into a garbage pit. However, this is no more! Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium is now set for a grand opening ceremony on 1st June 2024.
This is after the government leased the land to a Ugandan developer and entrepreneur Hajj Hamis Kigundu of HAM Enterprises Limited to develop Nakiivubo Stadium. Hajj Hamis Kigundu is believed to have invested millions of dollars to see Nakiivubo regain its former glory.
Nakiivubo Stadium was a gift given to Second World War veterans by Her Majesty the Queen of England Elizabeth 11 for their contribution to the war.
However, due to a poor management system, the place had lost its value and was no longer sustainable. When Hajj Hamis Kigundu gained full control of the place with a lease of forty-five years from the Government, he embarked on a reconstruction of the stadium.
His work ethic and spirit have seen once a dilapidated place turned into a modern facility with various business shops and sports disciplines. The playing surface and ground drainage system were reconstructed to keep off running water especially when it rains.
The stadium was fitted with brand new plastic chairs from the Very Important Persons (VIPs) to the ordinary section for comfort .
This has added to the number of facilities in the country since they are very few. A modern gym was also constructed for bodybuilders and people willing to work on their bodies. The gym includes modern training machines with well-trained instructors.
