Eddy Kenzo rules out possibility of contesting for any political office

Eddy Kenzo

Eddy Kenzo, legally known as Edriisa Musuuza, set the record straight by ruling out any possibility of contesting for any political post any time soon.

Eddy Kenzo together with a group of other artists broke away from UMA to start the Uganda National Musician Federation (UNMF), causing a rift in the industry.

Many of them, especially the section that subscribes to Bobi Wine’s NUP have constantly attacked them for receiving billions of money from the government instead of discussing how they could amend the copyright law that would be a long-lasting solution.

Eddy Kenzo who was once one of the top criticizers of the government said he had to put politics aside and see how he would benefit the music industry as a whole; that is when he decided to meet up with the president of the country for solutions for everyone.

“Do not expect me to contest for any political position anywhere because I’m not a politician. I tried my best to go back to the ground and help my friends because charity begins at home.

Eddy added that there is a lot of swirling propaganda aimed at threatening the unity among artists because if they unite, they will now have bargaining power.

He asserts that they are not in their positions out of bad faith, they are not fighting anyone, or aiming at causing any damage, but rather just want to add something to the country by developing the creatives citing they contribute a lot.

We are non-partisan because we have so many creatives who do not even know how politics work, who will represent such a person? That means we have to create a common ground that will favor all of us and we can’t do that without bargaining,” he said during one of his meetings.

Bobi Wine at one point urged artists to stop meeting up with the president who he said had turned them into beggars in their own country. Eddy Kenzo counterattacked his comments, noting that the president was the only person to solve their issues because it was his government that made the policies.

“People are talking but there is no one we can reach out to for help if it’s not the government because they are the ones that run this country. They are the people we can sit and discuss about the situation because they are the ones that make policies,” he said.

Eddy Kenzo further expressed his unending support for President Museveni and his party for the support he has received from him.

“If I wake up one morning and start supporting Museveni, it is not bad. You are also allowed to support whoever you want. Going by the way things are looking, I have every right to support him. Now that he has brought the poor like me closer and listened to my issues, I love him the most. But that is just me, you have your own choices,” he said.
