Many KCCA staff especially the cleaners have taken a working strike over what they term as poor working conditions and meager pay for their efforts to clean the city. They talked to the shadow minister for Kampala Hon: Shamim Malende who later forwarded their grievances to the speaker of Parliament.
The staff comprised single mothers, youth, and widows residing around Kampala allegedly missing salaries for over five months. They also lack the necessary gear to carry out their daily work.
However, the Speaker of Parliament has promised to help and find a lasting solution to the problems in the Kampala governing body.
She promised to meet the top leaders at KCCA to discuss about the issue. Ever since the issue was raised, it has now been more than eight months and nothing has been reached.
The KCCA staff who complained about the poor pay and going months without pay were threatened with being sacked after they raised the alarm and recently, they again hit the streets for the same cause.
The government now needs to find a lasting solution about how it can solve the matter since its workers have been living in bad situations and unclean environments since the KCCA workers went on strike.
