As traders in Kampala embark on a ”shut-down strike” in protest against the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solutions (EFRIS) system that the government and revenue collecting bodies intend to implement, security officers at Kikuubo business operating area have ordered the opening of the area this morning.
In a video clip accessed by this website shared on the Daily Monitor social media platforms, traders are seen opening the operating area under the supervision of security operatives clad in uniform and casual outfits.
All traders agreed upon the shut-down strike under their different organization bodies led by the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) and decided that the protest should go on today.
Meanwhile, in the other areas of the city center, apart from Kikuubo, most of the operating business premises are shut, and based on the photos cited, business is too slow and at a standstill.

The traders continue to demand the reversal of the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solutions (EFRIS) system before they resume their respective businesses and obligations.
Following the shut-down strike by traders nationwide amid escalating tax concerns, security personnel, and tear gas have been deployed heavily in certain areas of the city in response to the situation.
In other areas, Police have prevented an attempt to set tires on fire downtown, near the Ham Building. Security measures have been thus intensified in the area. Police and military are patrolling various parts of the city to maintain order during the strike.
