Information Minister Chris Baryomunsi warns public servants from leaking government documents

Chris Baryomunsi warns public servants from leaking gov't documents

The State Minister for Information, Communications Technology, and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi has sent a stern warning to all public servants against leaking government documents.

He alerted all those involved in the act to desist from it with immediate effect noting that if one is found will face the consequences he wouldn’t love to be slapped in the face.

Hon. Baryomunsi went on to state that it is embarrassing for a Minister to be sent a letter by His Excellency and before he gets to learn of it, it is already circulating on social media.

He noted that the act is done with a lot of impunity, unethical, and unlawful for someone to just leak government documents into the hands of people who are not supposed to see them. He added that the government and policy implementors are taking all possible measures to curb the highly rising vice to contain the government practice.

“I want to sound a big warning to public servants who leak government documents. Desist from this habit. You find that His Excellency, the president has written to me as a minister but before I have received his letter, you see it on social media. Some leak the documents with a lot of impunity; they tick to whom it’s copied and when you check the letter, you can easily tell which office leaked it. It is wrong, unethical, and unlawful for someone to just leak government documents into the hands of those who are not supposed to see them. We are instituting several measures to contain that practice in government,” Minister of Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi

The warning comes at a moment following the several government documents that have been leaked on social media in the last couple of weeks.
