Singer-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, has withdrawn a case he filed against the government for blocking his shows.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) President Bobi Wine withdrew the case due to what he believes to be bias and lack of impartiality by the Human Rights Commission Chairperson Ms. Mariam Wangadya.
Bobi Wine had previously filed the case in December 2018, but he has not yet had the opportunity for his case to be heard.
The government had blocked over 20 music concerts he was supposed to perform at, confiscated music equipment, and denied several people their rights to earn a living due to their political affiliation.
“I and my legal team have decided to withdraw our complaint from the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) simply because it is biased and lacks impartiality and independence to handle this case. We filed this case on the 17th of December 2018 and now it is more than five years, and they have not been giving us, especially me the chance to hear my expression about the matter. when I was given the chance, she wouldn’t allow me to express myself. She couldn’t allow me to make a personal statement. That shows she is biased and she is not willing to respect human rights and that shows she is working in the interests of Gen. Museveni and she is willing to do anything that will preserve Gen. Museveni’s rule even if it means empowering and protecting those who violate human rights. So for that reason, we have withdrawn our complaint from this commission”, Bobi Wine

Based on his statement we are yet to hear what he plans next since the legal team has decided to do away with the UHRC regarding the matter.
