The president of the Opposition political party National Unity Platform (NUP), Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), and the leader of the opposition Hon . Joel Ssenyonyi have donated relief items to the victims of the Kiteezi landfill garbage site.
Under a tense situation and amidst tight security, Bobi Wine and his team managed to make their way through to reach the site and visit the camp where the victims resided at Kiteezi Church of Uganda Primary School.
According to Bobi Wine, the Government needs to put in more effort into helping the victims of Kiteezi from the dire situation they are in.
“When I reached here, I was shocked to find some of the people I have known for years to be here. Like Mzee a friend of mine who provides food for my animals is also in this camp. Another friend who is a builder and contributed to the construction of my house is also a victim of this tragedy.
Their houses were demolished by the tractors which were brought to help during the rescue operation. This is not so far to everyone here or someone who is elsewhere because anyone can become a victim at any time.” Bobi Wine noted.
To add to that, Bobi Wine stated that this was not an accident as many people may claim. This incident happened because someone responsible did not do the necessary work needed to control waste management.
” This issue was brought to the floor of Parliament by our member Hon. Naluyima but those responsible did not take action.” Bobi Wine claimed
