The speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, and the Sate Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang were impressed after inspecting the ongoing renovations at the Nelson Mandera National Stadium, commonly known as Namboole.

Since its closure from the public, the Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF) Engineering Brigade has been under pressure to ensure great work is done to uplift and improve the stadium.

“It is not shoddy work, but a good job which requires some improvements. let the sports minister write to CAF within two weeks after completion to come and inspect again” Speaker Anita Annet Among said while addressing journalists.

Despite a huge budget of over 97 billion shillings which was allocated for the work, there are still major upgrades needed for the stadium to be recognized on an international standard.

According to a report presented to parliament by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the stadium is still below the required standards needed to be certified by the Africa Football governing body. It can not be allowed to host any international games according to the rules and regulations governing football worldwide.

The Federation of Uganda Football Association( FUFA) president and member of parliament Budiope East Engineer Hashim Moses Magogo, also applauded the engineering brigade for the work done. However, he further advised them to subcontract or hire consultants when having little or no experience in certain fields.

” Building international stadiums requires some kind of expertise which is lacking in the brigade,”  Engineer  Moses Magogo added.

After her official visit to Namboole, the Speaker Annet Anita Among ordered the removal of the wreckage of old pioneer buses which have been parked at the stadium for a while with immediate effect.
