Pastor Bugembe pleads to government to help residents.

After the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) razed down hundreds of commercial buildings including homes and schools, an alarm was raised by the lead pastor of  Worship House of Prayers pastor Wilson Bugembe.

He has called out the government of Uganda to step in and help the needy and homeless Nansana ganda residents whose homes and businesses were destroyed during an operation by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).

Pastor Wilson Bugembe challenged the government to provide food, clothes and shelter for the residents and also give some compensation to the affected families to enable them find another place to live.

” It feels bad to leave a place you have called home for years and expected to retire in the same place, work and everything, I don’t know anywhere to go now. All my property has been destroyed and am left with nothing,” one of the victims of the eviction cried out.

However, the government of Uganda is still mute about compensating the affected victims, the National Environment Management Authority spokesperson, Mr. William Lubulwa, claimed that the government has no money to compensate the victims.

According to him, the residents were well informed and each individual received a notification but did not comply to the government directive to vacate the wetlands on time.

The National Environment Management Authority is  doing its work as a government body in charge of protecting the environment.

Any business or projects which don’t follow the environment guidelines will not be spared by this operation,he added.

NEMA has also warned all people all over the country who settled in the wetland catchment areas to vacate before the operation is enforced to avoid inconvenience and destruction of property.
